This great article on housing affordability across Canada was released recently by RBC.
Alberta is the only province that showed an increase in affordability but we can attribute that in part to the recent years of market values increasing and the balancing that has occured since.
Here is a link to the highlights of the report. http://www.rbc.com/newsroom/2010/0525-housing.html

There is much talk about an increase in interest rates in Canada. If you are considering a purchase, your current mortgage is coming up for renewal, or you have an open variable mortgage you may want to investigate your options for locking in for the longer term. I suspect a substantial increase over the next 2-4 years. It is possible, and some say even likely, that we will see a 5 year fixed mortgage rate greater than 7% and as high as 10% in that time frame. My personal opinion is that it is ...

Once again, the news that makes the headlines is not really news to anyone who has been listening to what I have been telling them. LOL! Since at least September of 2009 I have been stating that 2010 will likley see a 3%-5% increase on property values, on average. This view has now been officially reflected in the most recent forecast by the Realtors Association of Edmonton and the many guest speakers from various aspects of the industry. Click the following link to check out a decent article ...

I came across this list at a time when I am facing several challenges with my time. Taking a look reassured me that I was doing the right things for the right reasons and staying on track.
#1 The great make a mistake and say, "I’m sorry, I made a mistake," Then they fix it. The good make a mistake and say, "It wasn’t my fault" then proceed to make the same mistake again. #2 The great say, "We can do this better" while the good often say, "This is the way it’s always been d ...

1) Housing starts are expected to rise While the seasonally adjusted annual rate of housing starts decreased to 132,000 units in July from 137,000 units in June, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. says starts statistics – which mark the actual, shovel-in-the-ground beginning of construction – are expected to improve throughout 2009. The reason? “Over the next several years, housing starts will gradually become more closely aligned to demographic demand, which is currently estim ...

May and June were exceptionally busy months for me and my blog updates were among the items that were not tended to as regularly as I probably should have. A very interesting article came out in the Calgary Herald today. Here is a link to it... http://www.calgaryherald.com/Business/Liberals seek protection condo owners/1529005/story.html The story, by Renata D'Aliesio, simply scratches the surface of a known issue that has been a thorn in my side for as long as I have been in real estate. The following is what I attempted to post to their website as a comment. Hopefully they will post it unedited. "I am a Realtor in Edmonton and this has been ...

In the midst of global economic turmoil there is at least one upside. It has never been a better time to be a buyer of real estate! A large inventory of homes to choose from combined with exceptionally low property values and amazingly low interest rates make buying a home an attractive and easy proposition. I have just received notice that 120 day mortgage rate gaurantees on a 5 year term are down to 4.15% and 4.09% with a quick close (less than 30 days). The Alberta advantage is still g ...
